Nick Kristof Win-A-Trip Contest 2020

web site

We're pleased to invite undergraduate and graduate university students to apply for The New York Times 2020 Win-a-Trip contest. Two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Nicholas Kristof has been holding the contest since 2006, and the winner will join him on a reporting trip to a country or region facing development challenges.

Co-hosted with the Center for Global Development, the aim of the prize is to generate interest in neglected global issues, and the winner will also have the opportunity to write for The New York Times.

Writers of color, women, LGBTQ+ students, conservatives, liberals, artists, athletes, veterans—we want to hear from all of you!

To apply, please fill out the short application form and answer the essay question online.

In no more than 700 words, explain why we should pick you for Win-a-Trip. Tell us about yourself and what you would bring to the reporting and to readers.

You may also suggest where we should go and what you would like to write about for the NYT, and/or discuss your aspirations and what you would like to be doing in 10 years.

Our goal is to get a better understanding of you, your accomplishments, and your writing ability.

The contest submission period ends at 11:59 ET on January 7, 2020. The winner will be chosen by Nick Kristof and Times staff, and will be notified via email or phone sometime in February or March.

Thank you for your interest, and good luck!
